John, don’t forget to call your credit card companies and to enquire about exchange rates.

Also, I would buy a charger for the iPod and take it with you (or your USB cable so you can charge it at an internet cafe). I have also heard that the current converters are cheaper to get in the States vs overseas.

BTW, I am a Windows user, but use Juice which does have a Mac version. I like it a lot. http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net/

    Hi John,

Have a great trip home – yes there are always conversion charges by credit card companies and they do vary so best check with the banks. I think there are also fees with AMEX travellers cheques but I know for a fact that if you change them at some banks or AMEX counters, they won’t charge you the conversion rate – maybe that is just me!! Best to inform your banks that you are going away so that they don’t cancel your card etc. yaddah yaddah yaddah – I sound like someone’s mum.

I listen to your show at work and I suppose being the lazy sod that I am have not been using my ipod/itunes as an podcast catcher at home. My nano is just so full of crap that I have a folder for all the podcast that I listen to at work. Mutinationals are very stringent with their administrative rights over your desktop!! It is the simple folk approach – I either listen online, the benefit of working on two laptops simultaneously or download it as an mpeg to listen via media player. I know – a little gadget retard that I am but hey not everyone can do that at work so I live with what I’ve got.

Have a great trip and don’t forget to eat all you can, burb all you want and write us much blog entries when you have the time coz it will be great to find out what happens during ChingChong Babi Year….. the only cracker that I’ll her is from the Fulin restaurant next door and they’re all made of prawns…..how exciting!

    Ciao

Hey there, wanted to say thanks for the plugs today. I know you told me to send you an audio clip of me announcing it and I was going to do it tomorrow. I was at work and right before I listened I thought about that. But thanks very much!

You know, for me, the easiest thing to do is to use iTunes to listen to your feed b/c of the whole iPod thing I have going. It’s so easy that way. I was hoping to find something about Songbird being able to do podcasts but I couldn’t find it. I’m sure once Songbird (songbirdnest.com) gets a little more polished and dependable, that will be another nice option.

I’m a bit jealous b/c I need a vacation!!! But that’s okay, you deserve it. Especially to go home. I get so homesick sometimes and I’m sure you do too.

And what kind of person would I be if I didn’t remind you to call the bank? 🙂

I use PodNova which is based on the Juice Receiver. The great benefit of PodNova is that you subscribe to all of your podcasts on their website, then you use their client to download them. The great thing is, if you go to another computer or your current computer crashes you can install or re-install the software and all of your subscriptions are there again. You don’t have to go through iTunes searching and re-subscribing. Their client works on Linux, Mac and Windows. However, the only problems that I’ve had with it are that when I use it on Windows, your podcast will keep downloading over and over but not fully completely download. BTW, your podcast is the only one that will do that. I have the client installed on the Mac but haven’t put your feed into it yet because I have you subscribed through iTurds on the Mac Cunt.

Get some Duracell Rechargeable 1700 mAh, NiMH, AA batteries. They’re really great. I’ve had very good luck with them. They last for a long time and are just as good as my re-chargeable batteries in my digital camera, which are of the same type of configuration (Usually about 400 photos from one charge). I got a charger and 4 batteries for I think $30. It was kind of expensive, BUT, definitely worth it.

I wish I wouldn’t have missed your live show on Friday night. Too bad I fell asleep so soon! Hopefully you’ll do another one soon!

Oh, one other thing. If you use PodNova’s service, they will create a giant feed for you which contains all of your subscriptions in one feed. But, I don’t think it works very well because it seems to me like it only downloads the one closest to the top.

Anyways, have a safe trip if I don’t talk to you between now and then.

  6. Andy Melton

Dangit, I should have clarified. You use the giant feed if you don’t want to use their client but want to use their site to manage your subscriptions.

OK! I think that is the last one! LOL!

Andy thank you so much. Thanks Brad, Hadi, and Ben for reminding me of my chores. Hey, I’m seeing the benefit of voice memo in podcasting. But of course, you’ve gotta start with a bunch of very dependable listeners. 😉

    I did call!
