My listener, turned friend, share her story of being a transgender woman. I have had some other transgender women on Ongline before. But they are usually at the later part of the transition process. I thought it would be nice to let people know in details of what the process is like, and hopefully inspire further understanding and compassion.
Cathy is generous enough to share her time and stories with us.
John (& Cathy):
It is very generous of Cathy to share her story with us. I appreciate her bravery at doing so. It was very interesting to hear about the stages of discovery of her transgenderism.
Prior to hearing her story, it occurred to me that (typically) transgendered people often come to realize their transgenderism at a later stage in life, but hearing Cathy talk about the journey of self discovery and the various justifications she accepted throughout her life, I have a better understanding of the long process that can occur.
Thank you, Cathy, for sharing such an intimate part of your life with us. I am anxious to hear the rest of the interview and I hope the rest of your transition is positive and allows you to live a happy and successful life as a woman.

Thanks for your comment. I’ll make sure that Cathy gets your sweet and supportive message.
And thanks for taking the time to share your comment.
I can’t wait to post and share the second part of our conversation.
Many thanks for your kind comments and wishes. I was very happy to share my story for two reasons. One is to let people know that it is possible for one’s inner self to remain mostly hidden until later in life, and the other is to encourage people to know that actually there isn’t so much to be afraid of in transition, at least that is the case in the kind of environment I am lucky to find myself in here.
My honest feeling is that the people who really care do come around to acceptance eventually, especially when they realise what a struggle it is to keep things on the inside.
I finally went full-time about three weeks ago now, and it took some getting used to at first. My friends, family, and work colleagues have all been wonderful.
Thank you John for giving me a chance to tell all that!
Cathy
