Shake it Sheikh

I haven’t been paying too closely an attention to the first Malaysian angkasawan (astronaut) news much.

Yesterday was the first time that I get to look closely at this first Malaysian astronaut.

His name is Sheikh (prounounced like “Shake”) Muszaphar Shukor.

Come on people. Whether you’re gay or straight, you have to admit that he’s HOT!

SheikhTU

So handsome!

Inevitably, I started looking for more than just pictures. Found some videos in YouTube.

I’m not judging or anything, but my gaydar went blip-blip-blip.

Perhaps it’s just wishful thinking. I’m attached and all. But what do you think?

Here’s a thought.

What if you’re that goodlooking, that well-known for being the first Malaysian astronaut (I can think of other spelling), and gay?

There is a quote from and article saying:

Sheikh Muszaphar, whose good looks have also landed him modelling jobs, said he had a sweetheart but she understood the demands of the mission.

Now, would the “sweetheart” necessarily be a woman? Or is the press just assumed? And in the article, it was “had” not “has”.

We are talking about a Malaysian in Malaysia. Representing Malaysia throughout the world. A muslim Malaysian. Being gay must not be as easy.

What did I just ramble on?

Did I mention he’s HOT?

Would you rather be gay and happy or famous and successful and being closeted?

Apparently…. theres rumors circulating ….and it points a certain way. My advise, let it be the word of PLU mouth and lets not judge him by his sexual orientation. we shouldnt spread the word on the internet, we wouldnt him to get into trouble would we brothers? He’s suppose to be an inspiration. One’s sexual orientation shouldnt be a focus… or are u all as prejudice? like many of the malaysian lot.

I actually thought through me entry before writing this.
My decision goes to truth and not to self-censor.
I’m not calling him out. I’m speaking from my own point of view.
But I did consider should I stop doing that for his sake?
Is being gay a bad thing?
When is it a good time to talk about that?
Why is it ok to assume someone’s heterosexuality, and a prejudice for someone’s homosexuality?
Someone’s sexual orientation is not an issue when it’s not a taboo to even talk about it.
Until that arrives, i choose to speak openly. It’s not a bad thing when it’s a reality. It won’t be easy. That’s why I blog about it.

All I have to say is that the whole Space Tourism thing was a total waste of tax payers money. He is NOT an astronaut, he just went up to space, served the Russian Astronauts Malaysian food and asked them to fill out survey forms on what they think about the food. It is unspeakable that the Malaysian government funded this bull. The 25 millions dollars could have gone into research, helping the poor or went into the educational system (we really need good teachers). I don’t think this guy deserves the attention he got, he never conducted any experiments or did any analysis on space, he was merely sent to space for the sake of “being the first Muslim Malaysian” in space. The fact this was made into such a big issue was because the word “Muslim” was mentioned so many times throughout his interview. Why does religion have to do with going to space? Why can’t he be the “First Malaysian” that went to space and not “The First Muslim Malaysian”? Do we need to sub categorized every single thing so that everyone comes with a label, or represent a special minority group. The whole gay identity that ties in with him is so mundane if you look at the whole picture. I personally do not think people need or should be label, if you are gay, fine, straight? Great! Its not a big issue. To get recognize in a society for whoever you are, you gotta prove yourself to make a stand, being pretty in your swimming trunks in front of a rainbow flag on a float will not gather respect. Contribute to society, make your point through actions, then flight for your rights as a human being.

Ya, I do agree he is hoooottttt…So what !!!gay or not gay..doesn’t matter…we enjoy admiring his photos, and his stories is enough….
As long as we are happy with that person, doesn’t matter…whether he is gay ,she is lesbien or what…
Boy or Boy…Sheikh Muszaphur is sure handsome…hehe…

Thanks everyone for your input. I am loving the discussion. This is precisely what is lacking most of the time.
    Keep them coming.

That is just one thing I never understand being a Malaysian in Malaysia. Why aren’t we allow to discuss gay/lesbian topics openly, why can’t we discuss about our sexual preferences openly in Malaysia local medias, why can’t we have sex shops in the city, why can’t we criticise our incompetent government in Malaysia openly? So backwards….

I’ll stay out of the debates (except to say if he IS gay, and feel like he needs to be closeted, it’s his right; though it is unfortunate that he has to be, and hopefully a day will come when it’s not an issue). But I will agree that he is very cute!

  11. John Ong

First of all, the discussion is great. I appreciate your opinions.
I would have to agree with T. Kevin. He has as much rights to do what he has to to survive. It is in Malaysia afterall.
I have no problem about the part where hid religion is mentioned. There us nothing wrong about admiring other people’s pride. But I do understand tax payers money being spent.
I want to reemphasize that myvpost isn’t to accuse. Or to out someone. I don’t know him. That’s a fact. But did my gaydar go off? Yes. Am I right, not necessarily. But that isn’t the point. The point is, I am aware that given the facts about where he is and how high a pedastel he is on, it must really be tough.
Regarding what Sean says about gay pride parade with the tiny little speedos, i have chamged my opinion about that too. I used to think that we should set an example, but that doesn’t mean that it’s all high and mighty. Opression forces some to act out the the excessively. I respect those who choose to do so.
But for me, instead of criticizing that, I have chosen to be out as who I am. To show the society that gay people, like our straight counterparts, are people of all kinds. Stereotypes are udually true, but not the real and whole picture. I feel like i have the luxury to be who i am, that’s why i do this blog and podcast. I am out fir those who not yet able. For those who do not have the luxury to be out. That is precisely the reason why I blog about this.
The gay community is should be the last to be all self-rightious. Though it is very easy to be fallong into that because that’s how we are being treated.
i also long for the day that this debate isn’t necessary. And the day that, i don’t even need to blog about this. Until then love and respect each other.

If given the chance to go to space wouldn’t you want to if you’re not paying for it? Come on guys, I think a lot of people are just so unhappy about so many things that we cannot comprehend being happy for anyone else apart from themselves. We are all lucky in our own way…positive living makes us less a grump.

I say look at the possibilities, he could be gay, one of the russian cosmonauts could be gay and they could be having a gay ole time in space. How romantic! Keep your hands off my bubble !!! LOL

    I agree to disagree….don’t ask don’t tell.
