Thanks for checking out my blog. I also use my blog to post my podcast and show notes related to each show.

Lately, I realized that not only me, but a few other podcasters have been having some issues with my show url, which is either http://johnong.com/ongline or http://ongline.johnong.com. So, I decided to get a new url, and hopefully this would solve the problem.

It is simply:

http://OnglinePodcast.com

Now you can tell all your friends about Ongline Podcast without having to scratch your head! I know I did that all the time.

Now, you can still get there if you have any of the above link. The new url is merely a new domain name that would forward someone to the right place, which is the http://johnong.com/ongline.

I heard a new podcast today, and the guy was talking about how by having 3 people voted for him on target=”link”>Podcast Alley, and that made him in the rank of the 300’s. So, out of fun, I went over and check on mine, and with 2 votes. I am in the 400’s, out of about 5900 other podcasts. LOL! Not too bad.

But ranks are never something I’m looking for. It’s you the listeners that I care about. Love to hear from you all. Drop me and email or leave me a comment.

Thank you!

Ongline Podcast #24 (4/14/05)Liberated Syndication. Donation, good or bad?

Ongline Podcast

Show #24 | Duration: 32:21 | 15 MB

I found this very cool hosting company for my podcast. It’s called LibSyn, short for Liberated Syndication. If you are interested in starting your own podcast or if you want to change hosting company just for your podcast, this is the best one I can find so far. Follow this link to sign up or find out more about pricing. It will also help support my podcast.

I think I have been thinking too hard about whether or not I should post a link for donation. So, while I was doing the podcast this afternoon, I decided to go ahead and put the link. If you find it very distasteful, please let me know. I will try to mention it during my show without being too obnoxious.

You’ll see this icon on the sidebar, and you can click on it to find out about the donation options.

Donate To Ongline

Regardless, thank you for all your support and for downloading the shows.

Should I Ask For Money?

My dear dear listeners,

I cannot even begin to express how surprised and delighted I am with the response I’ve been getting from my podcast.

Like you have heard before, I started it all because it was fun to do, and sometimes I’m too lazy to write. Plus, using my own voice is a little easier to have my personality shine through. It totally started as an audio blog for my family and friends.

However, today, I probably have more listeners whom I haven’t met listening to the show than my friends and family. Some even become friends because they write me often and tell me about their reaction to a certain show.

Now, the real drag. No, no wigs or dressess involved – Money.

Because of the modest success of my show (unlike the Dawn and Drew Show, Yeast Radio, Feast of Fools, or my new favorite Lucky Bitch Radio), I have been having to dip into my pocket deeper for a good hosting service. I am very happy with my current hosting company. But it is just not made for podcasting. I have upgraded once to cope with bandwidth and storage space. In less than a month, I have already approached the limit of storage space. So, I decided to go with this new service called Liberated Syndication. So far, they are the one that has the best solution. But of course, it costs. (You can help, if you’re thinking about starting your own podcast by following my referral link. That’d will help me financially too.)

I am NOT, I stress, I am NOT to the point where I either have to stop doing my shows or beg for financial help from my listeners. The fact is, I will probably continue podcasting regardless of how much it is costing me. Well, maybe to a reasonable degree. I don’t think you have to be concerned about my continuing the show. But a bit of financial help from someone to help my hosting bills and equipment would be nice.

I would love to hear from you, my dear listeners, who have been giving me so much support and encouragement. It’s not even whether you would donate. That is not an issue for me. I will like you as much even if you don’t donate. I merely want to find out if it is going to be cheesy or too corny to have a “Donate” link or two on my site?

I will repeat the same question in my next podcast. But I’d love to hear from all of you. If the majority of you think it’s just too corny to have a “Donate” link, I will not put it up. Nor will I mention it on my show. If you do not mind, perhaps I’ll mention it on my show (gently) when necessary.

Thank you, gentle audience (ala Madge Weinstein).

John

I wasn’t planning to do a podcast tonight. But I ended up doing a long one. I was suppose to just take down the serial number so that I can call up Alesis to find out more about my problem.

There is a surprise from Madge from Yeast Radio.

Chat with my mom in Hokkien.

My first Cantonese segment

NOTE: Thanks Uncle Bob for pointing out the bad link! I’ve fixed it.
